Motion Capture solution – biomechanical analyses

MBCD Sport Innovation delivers professional motion capture and biomechanical analysis services in collaboration with Xsens — a world-leading innovator in inertial motion tracking technology based in the Netherlands. Together we bring lab-quality human movement analysis directly into the field, without the constraints of a fixed laboratory environment.

At the core of our solution is the Xsens MVN system — a wearable inertial motion capture suit that records full-body 3D kinematics in real time. The MVN Link has an update rate of 240 Hz, allowing for detailed data analysis of high dynamic movements, and motion capture data can be streamed or exported seamlessly into major biomechanics and analysis software packages such as AnyBody, Visual3D and Siemens PLM. By enabling lab-quality motion capture in field conditions, the system allows analysts to turn the field into the lab — capturing accurate, true-to-life data that reflects an athlete’s actual performance in their real environment, not inside a simulation or on a treadmill.

This capability is central to what MBCD offers: precise biomechanical insight for athletes, coaches and sports scientists working in demanding, real-world conditions — from alpine ski racing and outdoor sports to rehabilitation and performance optimisation. Sports science and medical professionals can use the system to create insightful human motion reports that offer the most precise way to assess injuries, training routines and performance goals.

Motion Capture solution for dual usage

In the civilian and sports domain, MBCD applies this technology to biomechanical performance analysis, injury prevention, athlete movement optimisation and sports science research — working with athletes, coaches and medical professionals in real competitive environments.

In the defence and security domain, the same technology opens a parallel range of applications. Xsens motion and orientation data can be integrated into training simulators, soldier tracking systems and operational awareness platforms — with cost-effective, ultra-compact form factors suitable for scalable soldier systems and wearables. Validated studies confirm the Xsens MVN system accurately captures full-body joint kinematics during operationally relevant military movements including walking, running, kneeling and transitioning to prone positions. This dual-use character — one technology platform, two domains — is at the heart of what MBCD delivers: rigorous, field-proven motion data that serves both the performance needs of elite sport and the training, simulation and human factors requirements of modern defence and security organisations.
